The incumbent learning management system (LMS) at the British Red Cross had become obsolete and was no longer fit for purpose. The legacy system was fragmented across 14 disparate services, lacking integration and consistency. There were significant limitations around reporting, analytics, and data security due to outdated architecture. The user experience design was poor and not aligned to modern accessibility standards. Overall, the LMS was no longer meeting the needs of staff and volunteers.
After a thorough tendering process, Cornerstone Learning was selected as the new enterprise-wide LMS. Requirements gathering sessions were conducted with stakeholders to inform system configuration. Content migration involved porting over thousands of legacy eLearning courses and training materials into the new LMS. Cornerstone's hierarchical architecture enabled granular access permissions to be implemented, along with robust user authentication protocols. The system was developed using responsive web design for optimised viewing on multiple device types. Extensive user acceptance testing (UAT) was carried out to validate features and functionality.
